Magdala

“Magdalene” is a permanent installation of dried plants suspended inside a former French chapel. This 12th-century building, dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene, is now home to the 3CHA Contemporary Art Center, yet it still reveals a part of its medieval history.

As part of an art commission for the 3CHA Art Center, Studio Patrick Nadeau, in collaboration with Marie-Marie Dutour, was invited to design a large-scale work that establishes a connection with the space, the architecture, and the atmosphere. To achieve these goals, the studio chose to use dried plants to highlight the building’s traditional, fragile, and timeless qualities. Consequently, the final installation hovers above the floor, gliding into its ethereal form to create a golden halo.
