Memory Veil
“In his home, pearls were strung on the curtains to mark what he had learned”—Ji Shi Zhu (*Memories of Pearls*), Meng (2003, 2004).
“Veil of Memory” reinterprets this decorative element as a “veil” at the exhibition hall’s entrance. Strings of red cords hang from a structure featuring a geometric tiger pattern, forming a gateway that invites the public inside. Five red “curtains” create the illusion of a traditional Chinese archway; they sway gently in the breeze, and as visitors move through the space, the scenery shifts accordingly. “The Veil of Memory” evokes familiar memories of the past and transports visitors into a prosperous New Year.
