Shiohata created an installation titled “Journey of Uncertainty,” based on the concept of life’s journey without a specific destination. “This installation is like a giant web,” Shioda said. “Small boats carry us through a journey filled with uncertainty and wonder. The dazzling red of the yarn symbolizes our blood, and the web-like structure relates to blood vessels and nerve fibers—and even to the connections between people and our ever-changing relationships.” Artist Chiharu Shioda was born in Osaka, Japan, and lives and works in Berlin. In 2015, she represented Japan at the Venice Biennale.
